Allison was educated at LaTrobe and Monash Universities and taught in three Victorian Secondary schools. Following two and a half years in Malaysia, Allison returned to Melbourne in 1986 to take an Associate Pastor position in a Baptist Church. In 1992 she began an internship in Clinical Pastoral Education at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. Following this training, Allison continued in CPE, gaining Pastoral, Educator and Education Consultant supervisory accreditation and held the roles of Protestant Chaplain, Co Director, then Director, of the Department of Pastoral Care & Education, Austin Health. She published in journals in Australia and USA and completed a BTheol. (MCD) and a MA (SCD). She Chairs the Professional Standards Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Association of CPE and convenes the accreditation reviews for Clinical Pastoral Educators and Educational Consultants. In 2015 she became the inaugural Clinical Pastoral Education Liaison Officer for the University of Divinity. Allison served as the Baptist Representative on the Health Care Chaplaincy Council of Victoria for 19 years and chaired their Education & Research Committee for 6 years. From 2018-2020 Allison lectured in the Graduate Diploma in Supervision and currently supervises in the Graduate Diploma in Professional Supervision.
