Jesus’ Identity, Mission and Impact

Gain a deeper understanding of who Jesus is, what his mission is, and the impact of Jesus on the world and in history. Learn how Jesus is described in the Gospels, how Jesus has been understood throughout history, and how Jesus transforms our witness and worship. Develop a deeper relationship with Jesus and explore how to be his disciple and how to witness to him and his gospel and kingdom today.

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

Undergraduate

  1. Identify key depictions of Jesus derived in and from the gospel narratives.
  2. Describe the impact of the person and message of Jesus in selected periods of history
  3. Articulate how Jesus is encountered as Christ in Christian experience and testimony.
  4. (level 2) Discuss selected contemporary engagements with the person of Jesus.
  5. (level 3) Compare and contrast selected contemporary engagements with the person of Jesus.

Postgraduate

  1. Identify key depictions of Jesus derived in and from the gospel narratives.
  2. Describe the impact of the person and message of Jesus in selected periods of history.
  3. Articulate how Jesus is encountered as Christ in Christian experience and testimony.
  4. Compare and contrast selected contemporary engagements with the person of Jesus.
  5. Reflect theologically on the role Jesus has played in a particular, (researched) social issue.
